I’m working on my season review. I had 1,500 words written and then I forgot to re-log in to the back end software and I lost all but the first 100 words, which really sucks because I’ve pretty much burned up my free time for the day and I still have playoff previews to write. I’m working on getting it back together and it will be done today, probably in the early evening. Until then, read Joe Posanski’s writeup about last night amazing finish to the season because it is, as usual, the best thing you’ll read about baseball. If you’ve got time and page views left at the New York Times at this late date in the month, go over to 538 and read Nate Silver’s analysis of just how impossible the Red Sox collapse really was.

And then check back in a couple of hours, when I’ll actually have a post about the Pirates up on my Pirates blog.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.

I’m working on a post, but it won’t be done until later. Until then, here are some fun links:

National Sports Rankings has an inexplicably captivating “no-hitter” game.

After reading Charlie’s post this morning, I spent a decent chunk of the afternoon playing with the Minor League Equivalency calculator. Albert Pujols would hit somewhere between 90 and 100 home runs in a season if he played in the California League.

Also, Baseball Prospectus is having a meet-up at PNC Park before the September 5th game against the Cardinals. Will Carroll, John Perrotto, Rocco DeMaro, and these two dudes named Neal Huntington and Dan Fox will be making appearances. I won’t be able to make it, but that shouldn’t stop you from going. Check the link for information on price and how to reserve a ticket.
