... Nice write-ups on the Winter Meetings. Been stuck in finals and had to stay updated by taking a peek at your posts every now and then... |

... Gomes, from what I've seen/read/heard, isn't much of a presence defensively. As for the names you mentioned... Chuck James caught my eye too. Maybe he's worth a look? A couple other guys caught my attention, but neither of the guys you mentioned. I considered Wigginton, but he's more of a 3rd-basemen (MLBTR mentions that the 30 starts in the OF this past season for him was a career high), and I don't think we need a veteran 3rd baseman right now. Nelson might be worth a look, and as Bishop mentioned, Cabrera has probably already gotten a call. |

... I think there will probably be a lot of interest in Wigginton and I'd be surprised to see the Pirates get in on the bidding. And I'd much rather see Steve Pearce man the third outfield spot than anyone, but it seems like the Pirates are happy enough to have Nyjer Morgan keep a spot warm until McCutchen is ready. If Gomes was left-handed they might think about giving him a look as a guy that could come in and mash for a few months, then turn around in a trade. I guess they might look to do that now, but I'd be kind of surprise. Tim- glad you enjoyed it. I did have fun doing it, even if much didn't happen. |

... I would love for Cabrera to become a Pirate. I personally think he has tons of talent that just needs the right situation. He was stuck in the stacked AL East |

... Wigginton is 31 years old and put up an OPS of .697 away from that bandbox ballpark in 2008, he just isn't very good. I don't understand the fascination with stop-gap veterans - let Andy LaRoche, Pearce and Moss get consistent ABs next season and see what they can do. The team isn't going to be any good anyway, you might want to find out if any of the younger bats can be answers to our many holes in the lineup. |

... I agree...the Bucs need to spend their $$ on Cabrera and James...we could have a projected rotation of Maholm, Snell, Gorzo, Cabrera, and ?...not overwhelming but Cabrera is certainly better than JVB or anyone else we through out there last season. Gomes is an interesting thought but he's nothing more than a DH at this point. TyWigg is going to do nothing but steal AB's from guys who need them to develop further. Also, is there any risk of losing draft picks by signing these guys? I'm assuming since they're non-tendered that means they weren't offered arbitration and the answer to that question would be "No" but I wanted to double check. |

... What's the price tag on Capuano? Is he someone possibly worth the risk despite his injured past? |

... Gavin, we'll need someone to play after we trade our decent players, Moss doesn't recover from his knee injury, and we waive Andy. |

... I would personally take a miss on Capuano--you don't need to spend money on a guy who tips his slider by screaming in agony. |
