... I read that this morning and immediately got a visual of DL sitting in his office at PNC Park, wearing giant purple headgear, choosing who would be his next herald. "This McClendon is inadequate for my needs. I require someone such as that James Tracy. He's California-cool, very laid-back; he will make an excellent Black and Gold Surfer." |

... Heh, I too pictured giant purple headgear, Bishop...I would imagine that he wore it during the radio show. As a side note, the overlap of Pirate fans and comic fans is probably quite high since both require a certain suspension of disbelief. |

Speaking of suspension of disbelief, very few people know that there is a rumored early version of A Midsummer Night's Dream that involves Ryan Vogelsong winning a Cy Young. |

... HEY, GUYS. SPEAKING OF COMICS. Remember that Roberto Clemente graphic novel that was supposed to come out this winter? What's going on with that? I need that in my life so bad right now. p.s. Knock off this geeky Marvel crap and give me some DC love. |

... Now that Atlanta is set to sign Furcal does this put us in play for TWO moves? Jack to the Dodgers is obviously the first but at this point the Braves essentially HAVE to trade either Escobar or Johnson since their trade value won't be higher than it is this offseason unless Furcal goes down with another injury. They're talking about playing Johnson in LF but he doesn't really have a corner outfield for a contender type bat. Does Maholm and McLouth get us Escobar plus low minors? If so, don't we have to do that? |

... This year was totally worth it if only for the Galactus reference. It's made even better because everyone that reads this blog gets it. Also, Marvel > DC in everything but graphic novels. Batman and the Green Lantern are pretty cool, too. For further reading, see: http://www.brunching.com/images/geekchartbig.gif |

... wk - Everyone knows that Vogelsong doesn't pitch well until September so that title is going to need a rewrite...either that or Act 3 is him mowing down late season call ups. |

... The one quote I can think of to sum up the 2001 season is from Lloyd McClendon on the job status of Cam Bonifay: "All of a sudden, now it's Cam Bonifay's fault that we're not winning. That's the most ridiculous statement in the world. Cam Bonifay doesn't throw one baseball, doesn't attempt to hit one, doesn't make one hook slide, doesn't throw anyone out at the plate. His job is to acquire players, and he's done a damn good job of it." 7 and a half years ago upon reading that I thought "No Lloyd, what you said was the most ridiculous statement in the world." Although, I have to admit I was happy with the Dave Littlefield hire, if only because it wasn't Cam Bonifay. Trading away Jason Schmidt along with the injury to Armando Rios made me wonder if that new guy knew what he was doing... |
