Goodbye, red uniforms. Though more new alternates scares me. If they're black-on-black vests like the Rockies wear, I'm not going to be pleased. I guess nothing is worse than the McDonald's vests that we were wearing on Fridays.

Yah! I hated those uniforms so much. I'd be willing to put up with the black vest if it means never having to see the Pirates go out there in those awful red uniforms ever again. And it can't be worse than those all black uniforms they wore in the 70's. Personally, I hope they bring back something like this for the home unis:

Thank God! I can finally start going to Friday night games again! I actually think I'd kind of dig a black on black vest alternate, but that's a little too early Oughts. The wave of the future are old school throwbacks. Put me down as hoping for either the black/yellow pinstripes from the Fam-a-lee, or the mustardy-gold trimmed pullovers. You can keep the pillbox hats, though.

JerryG's been watching that Cubs game on the MLB network. ;)

figuring they'll be mixed with the existing pants, gimme the gold '70s shirt - they're celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Family this year.

failing that, give me the "Turn Ahead the Clock" tops...

Vests are gone completely. Home and road jerseys are basically the same, just with sleeves and the black on gold piping around the sleeves and collar. The new alts are black with sleeves and a P on the front.

Just tell me they are getting rid of the awful pinstripes as well, and I'll be happy.

I would love to see a gold or mustard color jersey. I wouldn't mind seeing the pillbox caps come back for a night or two.

K, you say, they're going to be black with sleves with a 'P.' Could you pass along the source?

That sounds okay with me. I think the team is trying to get away from the Jolly Roger & Bats logo and going back to the traditional 'P.'

K- I didn't have the impression they were changing the regular day-to-day uniforms at all. Seems like the vests will be staying, unless they're planning on shaking things up a lot more than just unveiling new alts.

I'd be sad to see the vests go - they're the only ones in MLB that work, other than the Reds home & alts.

That's my impression too... they're not changing the regular day-to-day vests. I certainly hope not anyway. It's nice to see current players wearing the same uniform as people like Maz and Clemente (early in his career). It show continuity and tradition, two things that the ownership has really been trying to emphasize. It would be a mistake to go back on that now.

How about going back to a old color scheme for the alts? It would be weird, and maybe ugly, but going back to Red and Blue would be definitely different.

My prayers have been answered. I hated those uniforms.

If they want to do it right, the Pirates should take a note from the Penguins' playbook and make the alternate jerseys some sort of throwback uniform. People in Pittsburgh have embraced the Pens' baby blue old-school outfits wholeheartedly, so I think it makes sense for the Pirates to do the same.

in 1992, there was a TBtC night where they wore the 1939 home uniforms, which you can see on Barry & Zane's 1993 Topps cards. can't find any photo evidence online, but they were gorgeous...

I remember Turn Ahead the Clock unis. I just sat there seeing them on Sportscenter and wondering who has a time machine and why did they only use it to find out what baseball uniforms of the future look like.

I have a family member who works in the front office and has seen them.

I'm not sure about the pinstripes, but I think they are gone as well. They were a McClatchey thing, along with the red jerseys.

I would love to see the Pirates go back to back to using a darker gold, rather than the current school bus yellow.

The pinstripe vests are staying. They will be the "Sunday uniform" once again. The team is only announcing the red jersey is going away, as opposed to all the new uniform changes, on purpose.

Oh, the drama...

IF YOU ARE NOT SELLING LIES....

cool. sad to see the home and away vests go, but the pinstripe is joyously burned in my memory from the "Sanchez Provides Happy Ending" walk-off home run to break the 13-game losing streak in 2006.

if that black jersey is the "P" version of the Cubs blue alts, i'm ordering it yesterday, with !!!NYJMO!!! on the back, no less...

The Reds ditched the vests prior to the 2008 season. The vest trend is due to return in about 10 years anyway. It's all cyclical.
