... Bullshit. Total Bullshit move taking Andy out tonight. Andy's a better hitter and is more than capable at handling 3B defensively. I just don't understand it... |

... you're absolutely right. the worst part is that it's not the first time he's done it--as you said. Andy LaRoche has been really good for a month now and he's one of my favorite guys to see up in a big situation. Why? Because he has gotten big hits for us a lot in the past month. If you want to pinch hit for Jaramillo or even if you want to hit Hinske or Moss if he's sitting or some lefty with comparable ability for LaRoche, I'll be disappointed because I don't think Andy deserves it, but don't give me fucking Ramon Vasquez in these situations. It's total bullshit. At this moment, and it could change, but he's got to be the third baseman of the future for us, so this is inexcusable. Thanks WHYGAVS, I was content with the Pens win and 3/4 from the Natinals, but your post got me fired up again. How cursed are we (or at least I) that the Pens can go up 2-0 in the conference finals and this Bucs loss is still ruining my night? |

... agree 1000%. i turned either during a commercial break or intermission on the pens and saw the 9th (probably caught half the game this way) and when he pinch hit for LaRoche i started swearing and throwing shit at the tv right then. not only didn't he hit, he struck out looking on 3 pitches. that cost us the game right there IMO, LaRoche had 2 RBI to that point and has been hitting great lately. and Pat, unlike you i'm not a JR fan, and it really pissed me off when he did the same thing last week. he seems to have a terrible idea of when to make a change in a game, be it pull a starter to early or to late, sitting Young and Moss when both have been playing great, or the fact that he never shows a lick of emotion. bring back Lloyd. |

... I completely agree with this and I was cussing Russell out as soon as the pinch hitter was announced. Andy LaRoche has been producing for the past month and is a cornerstone for building this team. He has the offensive potential to be similiar to Jason Bay. Pinch hitting Vasquez is complete BS. We might as well bring back Joe Randa and start him over Andy too. |

... not much to say except "ditto" to everything that's been said. as soon as i saw JR pull andy, i knew pat would be all over it...rightly so. dumbest move i've seen since the 8th inning when he left gorzo in. if you're gonna play the leftie/rightie matchup, why not take gorzo out sooner? |

Runescape Gold! I don't know what the hell you call that post, but runescape gold is what happens when you pinch hit RV for Li'l. Or when you overslide a bag, or bunt directly into a wheel play anyway even when the 3B is standing 40 feet from the plate. That's gold, Jerry! Runescape gold! If I'd had a blog during all this losing, I'd like to think I'd have called it Runescape Gold. |

... I thought Andy was hurt because there was no other explanation. I will give this to JR, he made me mad enough at the Pirates to throw my remote and accidentally hit my dog in the head. Don't think I was that into a Bucco game in a long time. Horrible move! |

... I think that what Russell was thinking about was avoiding the double play. I don't agree with managing not to lose, but if that's what he was thinking I can at least see his point. |

Avoiding the DP To avoid a DP, you start the runner. You don't put in a lefty batter who's .173/.302/.192 against RHP to pinch-hit for a right batter who's .271/.350/.402 against RHP. |

... What was the most infuriating about that whole sequence is that yes stats say lefties hit righties better and vice-versa. So if Russell is sticking to that logic why do you have Gorzo pitching to Ryan Zimmerman one of the best hitters in the league, and then bring in Chavez. I want to see what little laroche can do in clutch situations, but Russell hasn't elected to do that pinch hitting him in those situations more often than not. |

... I like JR a lot, but I'm with you on little LaRoche. I don't like that call, either. |

I can think of one thing... that would piss me off more: That would be to leave Gorzelanny in the game to face right handed hitters with right handers in the pen warmed up and ready to go. Explain that. |

... I haven't been able to catch a whole lot of gams, but JR pinch-hitting for li'l LaRoche reminds me of my life-I work in radio, and I'm not one to boast, but I felt I was good enough to be on-the-air, but the PD said I had a "speech impediment", which I KNOW I don't, which is why I moved out of PA to get a better opportunity in a bigger city, but my point is, wouldn't that possibly be dangerous to Andy's confidence? I'd be tempted to think that Andy may begin to feel like JR doesn't believe enough in Andy to let him hit in a key situation. C'mon, JR, let younger players hit or play in key situations-how are you going to know what their abilities are if you don't give 'em a chance? |

... I meant GAMES, not "gams"-been to many games in the 'Burgh and know that with a big population there, I've seen nice "gams" given some of the nice-looking female population. ;) |
