The Pirates are Marlins take the field at 6:10 to help you kick off your holiday weekend early. Charlie Morton and Chris Volstad take the mound in bright red caps as the Marlins try to stay in first place and the Pirates try to stay focused in light of even more swirling trade rumors (it's worth noting that DK is reporting there's nothing to the Pirates/Twins rumors and Sanchez is scratched today due to a back problem and not for any other reason).

Ok, slightly off topic when it comes to the game thread, but I thought I'd say something about this. This morning, my sister and her boyfriend showed up. They're both Cardinals fans, so their knowledge of the Pirates is minimal. At lunch today, he asked me what's wrong with the Pirates trading Nyjer Morgan like that. I said that it was a good opportunity to get Lastings Milledge and see if he could fulfill his potential with the Pirates since the Natinals didn't seem interested anymore. He said that he had heard about it on ESPN radio and they only talked about Nyjer and nobody else in that trade, he said that Milledge made it a little more logical. He then said that Nyjer's such a great young talent and I had to inform him that he's 29 years old and that Milledge is 5 years younger than him. He then went on this tirade about how the Pirates were just a few players away last year and that Huntington needs to be fired. I just "We'll see..."

So essentially, he keeps getting this information about the Pirates that seems incomplete and one sided, especially since he's not going to look it up on his own...

Stupid comment limits.

I think he keeps getting this information about the Pirates that is incomplete and kind of one sided and since he's not going to look it up on his own (on the internet) he's going to walk away with this bad impression of the team and how it's run. I wonder if that how most fans in Pittsburgh get their info about this trade...

OK, remind me again how Hanrahan was a great acquisition because his numbers wouldn't be as bad if not for the poor defense of the Nationals behind him...

Sanchez should stay put. Awhile ago I thought he should be traded, since he wouldn't fit in our long term plan and we should get young prospects. But now, there are three reasons he should stay put. First, he is one of the best five or six 2nd basemen in the league. We have few players who are that good, and should hang onto our real stars. (Unless a really really fantastic offer comes.) Second, like somebody said awhile ago, "who in Pittsburgh is a respected veteran?" We need to build people into that role, and a very good hitter is a good place to start. Third, it would be nice to hit .500 - that would put some excitement into the team. Sanchez would help accomplish that. (He helps more than Morgan or McClouth b/c McClouth was replaced with McCutchen and Morgan was not that good.)

Oh trust me that's the viewpoint of plenty of Pirates fans in town. I had to listen to my a co-worker telling me he was never going to a game again ever because they traded Morgan. I'm like where were you in 2003?
