You know what's coming. You know it and I know it.

Let's pretend like this weekend never happened, mmmkay?

Hey, look over there! Jen Langosch says the Pirates are scouting the Tigers! Seems to be lots of interest in Zach Duke this week. Let's talk about that instead.

Trying to figure out why the Pirates would be scouting their major league team. Don't seem to have any good younger players on their team that the Pirates could use. Shouldn't they be scouting the minor league affiliates more heavily than the major leag[removed]JOSC_reloadCaptcha()ue club?

Dejan reports that the Tigers are interested in Robinzon Diaz, and other teams are likely to take a look as well.

Sgt. Pepper -

Put this post down again after our next trade to remind people who think that our team is so good now that we don't need no stinkin' UPSIDE.

Ah, B&B. Nice to see you again, old friends.

As for Duke, trade that candy-arm. He's a fairly competent mid-rotation starter. Why the hell would the Pirates have any interest in keeping that? We have Virgil Vazquez and the Dorfer!!

I hope Duke, Capps, Grabow, Freddy, Diaz and Jack all get dealt at the deadline. Preferably for headcase OFers and fireballing pitchers with arm problems who all have UPSIDE. Dealin' Neal must never ever stop stocking our system with the deeply flawed prospects other teams gave up on. As a Pirate fan, I need these guys to look forward to.

What's Duke have, 2 more years of arbitration left? If the Pirates want to lock up Duke for 3 more years, it will cost at least as much as Maholm's deal. He's making $2.2 million now, and with arbitration if you throw the ball within 5 feet of home plate you're guaranteed to double your salary. So let's say 3 years/$18 million is what it would take get cost certainty on Duke.

That's nothing for a legitimate baseball team, but will the Pirates bite? Considering Snell's implosion and Maholm's slight regression this year, it wouldn't surprise me to them deal Duke and put some 400k guy like Gorzo or McCutchen in the rotation next year.

NH says he would have to be blown away to deal a starter, but his definition of "blown away" is decidedly different from mine.
