... dude, joyce? for a middle of the road reliever? all this appears to be is a stopgap until d'arnaud/laroche is ready to take over the 2nd base role. its one of the biggest positions of need for 2010 and delwyn young was not going to fit the bill. im fine with it. |

all good by me i liked Chavez, but there are a number of pitchers in the pipeline who will begin making at least bullpen appearances this year. Iwamura will be more solid than the other infield options, and a safeguard for the Andy@2B experiment. i bet Aki will be used as a trade chip and flipped at the deadline, if not before. |

... Chavez is awful per the peripheral numbers, so I'll trust them for the most part. |

... You're kind of looking at this in a vacuum, Pat. I wouldn't say that Aki is of little use if the Pirates can't extend him. Odds are, he'll make solid trade bait even if they can't extend him. Turning Jesse Chavez into a good stopgap - meh. But turning that stopgap into a prospect or two? I'll take it. |

Iwamura & Laroche I think another scenario is that if Alverez comes up next June or so, Laroche becomes a trade item. |

... don't forget, we will probably get back someone as good as or better than Chavez when we inevitably trade Iwamura to some desperate team. Remember getting San Fran's #2 pitching prospect for Sanchez? |
