Game 112: Padres 4 Pirates 1

If I had to draw up a diagram of how I hoped the games in this Pirates/Padres series wouldn’t play out but probably would, I probably would’ve gone with:

  1. Pirates get a decent start that keeps them in the game.
  2. Padre starter shuts the Pirates down.
  3. The Pirates’ patchwork bullpen gives up some runs.
  4. The Padres’ awesome bullpen doesn’t.

Last night was four for four. And I would like to note that while I’ve been pushing for JR to use some intelligent platoons lately, I didn’t really mean Andy LaRoche at first base.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
