Game 125: Pirates 7 Marlins 2

The Pirates haven’t had quite as much trouble with lefties as they did early in the season, but it was a bit of a relief to watch them jump all over Chris Narveson one night after being shut down by Brad Hand. The Pirates hung six on Narveson in a hurry in the second inning in this one: Michael Morse lead off the inning with a double, Neil Walker doubled him in, Chris Stewart singled Walker in, Josh Harrison drew a walk after Jeff Locke made an out, Starling Marte singled Stewart in, and Andrew McCutchen launched a three-run homer to put the game away.

That was enough of a cushion for Jeff Locke to cruise through seven innings for the first time in a month, and then Joe Blanton shut the door with two easy innings. Besides the home run, McCutchen doubled in Harrison in the first inning, so Harrison scored twice in what was his first solid performance since returning from his injury.

Sometimes wins are uneventful. I think this one qualifies. There’s nothing wrong with that.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
