JA Happ starts again

I’m a bit pressed for time tonight (it’s 6:55 and I’m just sitting down to write a preview), but I’ll reiterate my thoughts on the Happ/Morton/Locke trio that will start the next three days: if the Pirates are going to stay ahead of the Cubs and somehow catch the Cardinals, they need something from these three pitchers. I think we can definitely say that they got that last time through. Happ, in particular, looked like he had some good stuff against the Mets and racked up some strikeouts in his short start. I assume that he will again have a short leash tonight; once he’s through the lineup twice, he should be yanked at the first sign of trouble. The depleted bullpen may affect that, of course, but then, I suppose that’s what Josh Wall is up for.

Anyway, Happ against the lefty Robbie Ray tonight. First pitch is at 7:05 which is … nowish.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
