Jorge Bishop

StatsMinor League SplitsWTM

Panamanian shortstop signed in 2008 that hit .308/.367/.470 in the VSL as an 18-year old. He should make his American debut with the GCL Pirates this summer and is worth watching.

July 2010 Update: Like Cayonez, Bishop is a loong way from Pittsburgh but as mentioned above he had a big year in the VSL last summer and now he’s with GCL Bradenton. He hasn’t played terribly well there thus far, but it’s an awfully small sample size. He’s definitely one of Gayo’s most-touted Latin American signings, though, and he’s a bit younger than a guy like Eric Avila so I’m ranking him fairly high if for nothing than a reminder to keep an eye on him.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
