Charlie Morton and the long layoff

Charlie Morton makes his first start since July 8th tonight, and I wonder if the long layoff will help him recover from the July 3rd start that was broken up by a 45 minute rain delay. He ran out of gas towards the end of that start against the Marlins and looked very rough in his next start against the Astros, so maybe the All-Star break aided downtime will help him bounce back.

He’ll face Barry Zito tonight, which means Brandon Moss gets the night off in favor of Delwyn Young, but beyond that the lineup is about the same as it normally is. Everyone will keep clear of Garrett Jones, in fear of someone pinching him and waking him up.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
