Pirates cut Atkins, Thomas

The Pirates cut Garrett Atkins this morning, which is bad news for Atkins but good for Pirate fans because it means that someone like John Bowker, Steve Pearce, or Andy Marte will make the team because they deserve to make it. With Fields and Marte and Pearce seeing playing time over the weekend, it was pretty easy to see it coming, but I’m happy to see the Bucs make the right choice nonetheless. Justin Thomas, who pitched poorly on Saturday, and Fernando Nieve, who pitched well but was pitching late innings in a Grapefruit League game, were both sent down.

I’m heading back out to Bradenton, like, right now, so I’ll be back with more tonight.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
