Pirates sign Wyatt Mathisen for full slot value

No money saved to sign Appel, but that was pretty much expected at this point. Mathisen’s a very interesting prospect, though, and I was a little worried that he may have gone back to college or JuCo to try and get first round money in the future. He apparently won’t though, and he’ll get a ton of time in with GCL Bradenton or State College this spring, which is awfully good news.

As the picks from the first ten rounds sign, we’ll have an idea of exactly how much money the Pirates have to offer Mark Appel, so Mathisen signing quickly is also an added advantage on that front.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
