Pirates will decline Paul Maholm’s option

Well, so much for that. The Pirates are going to decline Maholm’s team option for $9.75 million and the pitcher says he’s going to “test free agency.” I sincerely doubt he’ll be back.

Maholm’s not Sandy Koufax or anything, but unless Neal Huntington has some serious tricks up his sleeve, the 2012 Pirate rotation is going to be the biggest Disaster Area since Kakrafoon.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
