Wandy’s first start

I can’t really imagine how weird it must be for Wandy Rodriguez to be making his Pirate debut in Minute Maid Park against his old team; he hasn’t even left Houston since Tuesday’s trade because the Astros were at home and the Pirates were on their way there. Really, so far this week, the only thing that’s changed for him is that he’s sitting in a different dugout in a different uniform. That changes tonight, when he pitches against his old teammates.

Of course, many of his old teammates are scattered across the league instead of being concentrated in Houston and the ones that are left aren’t very good. Even when they play their best game, like last night, they tend to find themselves coming up short. He’ll face off against Armando Galarraga, who’s making his first start of 2012 after being with the Astros’ Triple-A affiliate since late May.

First pitch tonight is at 7:05.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
