Edinson Volquez faces his old team

The Edinson Volquez Redemption Tour stays at PNC Park tonight for Volquez’s first matchup of the season against the Cincinnati Reds team that he’s spent much of his career pitching for. Not so long ago, Volquez and Johnny Cueto represented a bright future for the Reds. Tonight, they’re mound opponents.

As good as Volquez has been this year, it’s also true that lefties have had more success against him than righties. I’m curious to see how he handles Joey Votto and Jay Bruce tonight. Obviously, he’ll have to be very good to give the Pirates a chance to beat Cueto if Cueto pitches anything like he did at Great American Ballpark last Thursday afternoon, in which he dominated the Pirates in a complete-game, nine strikeout, three hit masterpiece shutout. First pitch tonight is at 7:05.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
