Lester and Liriano

Sorry for the late post today; I have a meeting with my thesis committee tomorrow morning, I’m moving this weekend, and I have to make time for Josh Bell and Tyler Glasnow, too, so it’s a pretty busy week for me. At this point a Pirates/Cubs series is pretty straightforward: the Pirates are awfully comfortable in the first Wild Card spot right now, but they won’t be if their NL Central struggles continue against the Cubs. A few other things

  • Francisco Liriano goes for the Pirates tonight. There will be strikeouts.
  • Mike Morse gets his first chance to prove he can be a useful right-handed first basemen against lefties, as he gets the start against Jon Lester.
  • The Pirates’ performance against lefties will be interesting in general in these last two months, as Lester, Madison Bumgarner, and Clayton Kershaw are all potential Wild Card Game opponents for the team, should they find themselves in that game again.

First pitch is at 7:05.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
