The Pirates look to sweep the Padres behind Charlie Morton

Things are going so well for the Pirates right now that an actual thought I had today was, “Geez, if the Pirates win this game and sweep the Padres, it’ll almost feel like too much to ask for them to take three of four from the Cardinals this weekend.”

Screw it. Take no prisoners. Win as many baseball games as you can when you can. Justin Upton is out for the Padres tonight with a sore oblique or something, so the opportunity exists to go for the sweep tonight. Charlie Morton starts for the Pirates, Andrew Cashner for the Padres. Cashner has not looked great over the last month, with 20 strikeouts and 17 walks in his last 34 1/3 innings. The Pirates have struggled offensively this week with Marte and Harrison out, so it’d be nice to see them get back on track with the Cardinals officially looming.

First pitch is at 7:05.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
