If this Pirate season is going to be more successful than their difficult April suggests, then almost by necessity we’re going to have to look at this three-day break created by rainy Baltimore as the turning point. The Pirates really just can’t keep scraping along the way they have been for much longer and hope for things to magically turn around. The time to snap out of this funk is now.

Of course, if the Pirates sweep this double-header against the O’s, then they’ll have won three of their last four and we can tell ourselves for at least 24 hours that they’re on their way to doing just that. Charlie Morton and Brandon Cumpton start today for the Pirates, while Bud Norris and Chris Tillman start for the Orioles. The first game kicks off at four, with the second game coming a half an hour after the first.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
