Four good words

There is only one thing that could make a concerned Pirate fan feel better about a baseball game. They are these four words:

Gerrit Cole is starting.

There is only one way to dig out of an early season hole and that’s to win the game that’s right in front of you. Gerrit Cole was the National League’s best pitcher in April, so obviously he gives the Pirates a chance to take one step forward tonight. He’ll face off against Mike Leake, who is not good.

A bit of news today: Andrew Lambo is now on the disabled list with a foot problem and called up Steve Lombardozzi to replace him. Lombardozzi is a utility guy who could be charitably described as “light-hitting” to this point in his big league career, though he did kill the ball with Indianapolis to open the season.

Jung-Ho Kang is starting again tonight, this time at shortstop. First pitch is at 7:05.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
