Game 35: Cubs 11 Pirates 10

The Cubs had leads of 7-1 and 10-5, but the Pirates managed to tie the game at 10. Andrew McCutchen and Josh Harrison had a bunch of big hits to key the comeback. In the tenth inning, the Cubs loaded the bases with one out. Matt Szczur hit a pop-up to right field, Gregory Polanco caught it, and lasered a throw to the plate. Starlin Castro was out by nearly half the length of the base line. In the twelfth inning, the Cubs loaded the bases with one out. Matt Szczur hit a pop-up to right field, and Gregory Polanco fell over. Starlin Castro scored easily.

If I say any more about this, I’ll probably be forced to punch a hole in my computer screen.

Wait, one more thing: Jeff Locke threw 76 pitches through three innings, gave up a leadoff double to the pitcher in the fourth, and still was allowed to pitch until Anthony Rizzo hit a home run. I’m still mad about that. But hey, it was only 5-1 way back in 1756 or whenever it was that the fourth inning of this game took place.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
