I know that a seven game winning streak is great and all but I am greedy and won’t be happy if it doesn’t get to eight

On tap tonight for the streaking Pittsburgh Pirates: James Shields, who is somehow 6-0 despite having allowed 15 home runs in 62 1/3 innings. That is an insane home run rate. Ian Kennedy came into last night’s start with an insane home run rate, and the Pirates certainly knew what to do with him.

I’m not sure what to think about Francisco Liriano tonight now that Petco Park has apparently turned into a launching pad. PNC Park fits Liriano like a glove, but he’s occasionally uneven on the road. Before his brilliant last start against the Mets, I think that “uneven” would be a pretty generous way to describe the way he’d been pitching.

Anyway, it’s another 10:10 start tonight. I have no idea what’s going to happen in whatever this weird ballpark in San Diego masquerading as Petco Park is.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
