Gerrit Cole and Jose Fernandez: The Rematch

I don't think that this needs too much hype or additional buildup. On July 28, Gerrit Cole (1st overall pick in the 2011 draft, preseason #7 prospect at Baseball America) faced off against Jose Fernandez (14th overall pick in the 2011 draft, preseason #5 prospect at Baseball America) in Miami. Cole struck out eight batters in seven innings, holding the Marlins to four hits, but giving up three runs. Fernandez struck out 13, holding the Pirates to five hits and two runs. It was everything that that sort of pitching matchup should've been.

Today, they're facing each other again at 12:35 at PNC Park. The Pirates are gunning for their fifth consecutive win. Baseball is great.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
