Gerrit Cole faces the Brewers with a chance to return to first

The Cardinals are off tonight, which means that the Pirates can move back into a first place tie with a win over the Brewers. Gerrit Cole gets the ball and will try to do just that for the Bucs tonight. His last start at PNC was in almost as big of a spot, as he started against the Diamondbacks after the Pirates lost two of three to the Cardinals, and he turned in an excellent six-inning outing. Like tonight, that start also came with a little bit of extra rest. Cole sure seems like a guy that thrives on big moments, so hopefully we see his best stuff tonight.

Yovani Gallardo starts for the Brewers. He has, for the most part, just not managed to find his stride at all in 2013. Even though his surface stats are OK since the break (3.67 ERA), the peripherals are just not promising at all and his. The Pirates beat him twice in May, though obviously that was a few months ago.

First pitch tonight is at 7:05.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
