Housekeeping

As usual, getting ready for my committee meeting pretty much consumed my entire week and so my idea that I'd spend some time getting big posts together was fairly misguided. The good news is that that's done with now (I survived! I might graduate … eventually!) and so next week will definitely see some more posting here at WHYGAVS.

The truth is, the early part of this off-season has been pretty quiet. Non-playoff teams always hunker down and prepare for the hot stove market quietly at this time of year, but the Pirates don't even really have any prospects worth watching that closely in the Arizona Fall League this year (the Pirates' players are on the Scottsdale Scorpions; Matt Curry, Gift Ngoepe, Adalberto Sanchez, Kyle Kaminska, Victor Black, Tyler Waldron, and Brandon Cumpton are all there). I'm sure a couple of those guys will eventually play for the Pirates, but the prospects worth watching are either pitchers already in the system (the club would never add to the workload of Cole or Taillon after a full season by sending them to the AFL) or too young to go to Arizona.

Anyway, the Yankees are out of the World Series and watching their strategy of overpaying overrated free agents explode in their faces has been pretty nice. But the Cardinals are probably going back to the World Series, and that's just the worst. Next week: WHYGAVS talks prospects!

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
