Jay Bell hit a home run off of the guy he was traded for on the first pitch of his career

When the Pirates hired Jay Bell last week, I mentioned that I had read an excellent Deadspin story last month about Bell and the beginning and end of his career and that Bell in general had really impressed me in the story, leaving me with the impression that he'd make an excellent big league coach. I wanted to link to the story, but at the time all of Gawker's websites were down thanks to the Hurricane Sandy-induced flooding in New York City. Deadspin's back up today, and so I want to link to the piece to make sure that everyone sees it

Welcome back to Pittsburgh, Jay Bell.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
