Kevin Correia signing official

It’s not usually news when the team announces that signings become “official” when they were reported in excess of a week ago, but the Pirates just announced that the Kevin Correia signing is official this afternoon. That’s noteworthy because the 40-man roster is at 40 without him thanks to Scott Olsen and Lyle Overbay and Josh Rodriguez. Rob Biertempfel thought earlier this week the club was waiting to trade Doumit, but they could still clear someone like Chris Leroux off of the roster to make room. We’ll see, probably pretty shortly.

UPDATE: Jen Langosch notes that the signing won’t be officially official (with MLB, that is) until Monday, so the Pirates have until then to clear the spot.

About Pat Lackey

In 2005, I started a WHYGAVS instead of working on organic chemistry homework. Many years later, I've written about baseball and the Pirates for a number of sites all across the internet, but WHYGAVS is still my home. I still haven't finished that O-Chem homework, though.
